I thought the "true" definition of an assault weapon was that it had select-fire capability.

Not so!

There is a military definition of a "assualt rifle". It's a rifle based on a lighter ammunition (.223 or 7.62x39, for example, as compared to full rifle ammo like 7.62NATO) that is full auto or select fire capable (or even burst like the M16A2).

"Assault Weapon" is a term made for TV and politicians. And the law (thanks to both the politicians and the TV).

Guys-

I'm going to delete these replies. Not because I have anything against them, but this was intended to be an informational, not conversational, thread.

In fact, I'll COPY the thread to ChitChat, and lock this one down.
