I'v learned something on this board already. From reading you guys posts, it sounds like there is a big differance between 308 win and 7.62 nato ammuntion. Is this true? How will shooting .308win damage my m14?

Thanks
Steve

It is all here (http://www.fulton-armory.com/308.htm) in the Fulton Armory FAQ (http://www.fulton-armory.com/308.htm)

With all due respect to Clint and Walter, there is some newer and/or more complete information on this matter:

Debunking the Myth of "NATO Standard Ammunition" ('http://www.cruffler.com/trivia-June01.html')

.308 Win v. 7.62 X 51mm (http://communities.prodigy.net/sportsrec/gz-hague.html#308)

The first referenced essay makes a compelling brief that not only is .308 Win not the same as 7.62x51mm, but that all 7.62 NATO isn't even alike.

Shooting commercial .308 Win will not damage your M1A, unless you shoot ammo such as Hornady's light magnum. It will not damage the chamber, but will most likely bend your operating rod.
