Adams arms piston kit failure and question

Im not bashing on Adams Arms at all. I have talked to them and they should be back in touch with me tomorrow. It does have a lifetime warranty so it should be replaced.
Had a gunsmith do the mods because I needed a few other things done to the weapon and I really didn't feel like messing with the original gas block, etc, etc.
My question is, has anyone ever seen, or heard of this kind of malfunction with an Adams piston kit, or any other piston driven AR? Does anyone have an idea what would cause this?
Thanks

I have heard of issues ranging from carrier tilt, to the piece that replaces the gas key shearing off. Fortunately many companies that are now making aftermarket piston conversion kits are now making proprietary bolt carriers that have an enlarged diameter at the rear, to minimize tilt, and a "knob" machined into the carrier where the gas key would have gone on a DI carrier. I believe the Adams Arms kits only come with the bolt on "knob," but i haven't seen any of their new products.

Talked with them today and the are replacing the rod that broke, free of charge...
I'm ordering a 14.5in Daniel Defense barrel with 1:7 twist tomorrow. Once the parts come in, we will go over everything again step by step just to make sure everything is correct. If it happens again, then I don't know

Adams stand behind their product and are easy to work with, I will give them that.

Always good to hear positive customer service experiences. Seems like far too often customer service is painful or non-existent, so this is refreshing to hear.

Best of luck with the re-assembly, and let us know how it goes.

Yeah I was a bit surprised at how easy everything went. I sent them an email with the pics and gave them a description of everything that happened. The next day, ( today ) I got a call from them and we talked about what happened and what might of caused the problem, then I was told they will be sending me out a replacement rod and some springs just incase I needed them and if not, I got extra parts.
Their customer service is great. I will let you know how it goes with everything.

I had the detent pin in the gas plug assembly pop out of mine after about 600 rounds. Adarms Arms sent me a slightly redesigned gas plug - which list for $99 on their website - at no charge within a week. Other than that no problems.

For what it's worth my Adarms Arms kit came with a one-piece bolt carrier with a small spring that goes behind the bolt. I have had no signs of carrier tilt now after about 900 rounds.

I haven't even cleaned the gun since installing the kit last summer - just squirt some lube in it - but I might pull that rod out and take a closer look at it after seeing these pictures.

You might check that the "gap" between the operating rod and the gas block is correct. AA says the thickness of 2 business cards is the proper distance. If this gap is not allowed for, the BCG will slam into the operating rod on the counter recoil stroke which is what will cause the rod to fail. I used to work at a shop installing these kits.... Plenty to learn about them and experience is the best tutor. The section in the installation instructions regarding the setting of this gap should be reviewed carefully. This is the only reasonable cause for failure as the rod actually is floating when not being driven. Hope this helps.

You could just buy an Osprey Defense kit and not ever have to think about it again.
