Front sight ?

I have the standard style front sight. I'm wondering if it would be better to change to a flip up front sight for a better view with optics like a Eotech 512? do they get in the way? I don't have the Eotech yet just wondering?

All depends on what optics you are using and if it actually gets in the way.
I have a Burris Dot on mine. The front post got in the way so I replaced the gas block with a flip up sight. The Burris is very small so it doesn't take much to get in the way.
You can also use a riser mount and look over the top of the front sight.
I wish to be remembered that I was the last man of my tribe to surrender my rifle.

I had an Eotech on a flat top with a standard front sight gas block and could clearly see the front sight, which is excellent for co-witnessing. It didn't take long at all to learn to ignore the front sight when the Eotech was on. The Eotech's donut-dot reticle draws your attention. You can also run it with a stationary rear sight if you want, since it co-witnesses in the bottom 1/3 of the Eotech sight window, but I had a flip up rear sight since it was an add on anyway. Hope this helps.

When I was doing entry work I stated out with a fixed FSB and an Eotech.
It just seemed to get in the way.
I changed to a flip up and had a great, clear sight picture.
Oddly, an Aimpoint, I prefer with a fixed FSB.
