Saiga AK-47's

I was looking on gunbroker.com, noticed some of these AK-47's made by Saiga with just a regular style stock, no pistol grip, no flash suppressor that I can tell. Curious if anyone has experience with these, and furthermore if they are legal for California.

Great guns, but not CA legal IIRC.

sorry run8:
blender is right. The Saiga is on the "list" of AW's in CA.
You have to buy an off list receiver (not hard to find) and a parts kit. You assemble the majority of it (not hard). I have a gun smith who will install my barrel portions when the time comes.

Check out this board (no offense to this one, its a CA board) and poke around a little. That's how I found out about all the AK stuff. I cross refrenced it against current law and most of what they say is true.

There is a guy on there called MonsterMan who sells grips through this site
http://www.tenpercentfirearms.com/
that deals with the "no pistol grip" requirement. They are not for sale yet but will be soon from what the guy says on the boards. I already have an AR-15 version. Fit is good and it affords a very natural and functional shooting position.
Other than that, just no flash supressor ro folding stock. Pretty easy really.

I just ordered a parts kit today (Romanian) and I have a receiver on order.

edit: I just checked with 10%. The original run of AK MonsterMan grips sold out in the first 2 days they had them on the site. Send them an email to get on "the list" to get one. It shouldn't take to long.

Thanks guys, too bad, but doesn't hurt to ask. Think I know a place that sells the off-list recievers, I'll have to check him out this coming week see what he has to say.

Been to calguns, good site, have it booked. I just don't check it often as this one is my favorite site

I currently own 9 Saigas, used to own 11... but had to trade out a couple so that Mr. Miculek could get one... LOL

They are GREAT rifles/shotguns... Its a shame you cant get them in Cali... because they are worth the buck!

Just got my NIB Saiga 308 short bbl today, with side scope mount, 3x9x40 scope and 100 rounds of Monarch 150 grn ammo. That should do it for a while, but just in time before they're banned in Texas.

I hear ya brother, it's a shame there' s alot of things we can't get in CA. and with the recent batch of new politicians in DC. It's time to get the things you want, because I'm sure they'll start adding harmless things to the list of bad stuff to have, I was shocked to see in several catalogs where they won't ship air rifles to certain places in CA, San Francisco being one of them.

Whatever floats their boat as they say!
