1. Check that the gas plug in the end of the gas cylinder is tight. Not gorilla tight or you'll mess up the threads. Just make it pretty darn tight.

2. Remove the op rod spring, reassemble, tilt the rifle muzzle down then up at 45 degrees. The action should slide open and closed on its own. Report whether this is the case.

3. If it still doesn't work remove gas plug and see if the poppet valve in the plug is cracked or stuck slightly open by some crud.
