suggestions for an all steel,budget 1911 45

Hello,

I would appreciate hearing from the members ...their views as to what budget 1911, they recommend.
I am semi retired...working still ( yuch)....money is tight. I have been selling off my collectibles since we downsized out of our house back in 2009....to get shooting money.
I would LOVE to get back to 45 shooting. I kick my self because I bought a Colt 45, I think it was the 80 model, years ago...Unfortunately I figured I would be moving to NYC and getting a permit is pretty tough unless you are connected....I was not.
I sold the 45 and now want another, as I don't live in NYC any more...but I can't scrounge up the $1000 or so to buy a new colt.! I like quality so would not consider a KTEL, etc....I live in upstate NY so am limited to an 8-10 shot magazine..
I have read reviews and remember the real deal I had way back when. I am a big guy and the weight and feel of the 1911 colt just felt right and shot right in my hands. I don't like aluminum frames...I want an all steel gun. I had a S & W M 39, and the aluminum frame made it whip terribly in my hands...in 9mm. I also want 5" barrel and slide or maybe would accept a 4.5"
I wanted to buy parts from Sarco and build my own....but they never seem to have the frame parts kit slide etc......very frustrating.
I have read reviews and know to stay away from American( AIC?)...and some other models.....the one made in the Philippines seems to have good reviews.
I am not looking for a national match gun...nor a mini hide out gun but an all steel...45....5" or maybe 4.5"...for informal target and defensive shooting.
Price,... is an object....
Appreciate suggestions...
thanks

Rock Island.......American Tactical.......American Classic
all 3 made by S.A.M. of the Philippenes on old Colt mfg machines (non digital).

all 3 are great bang for the buck guns with a few considerations.....

1. stick with single stack models, the double stack mags are crap.
2. stick with 5" or 4.5" "Commander" models with military style short guide rod......the compact models with full length guide rods never quite work as well as on the drawing board.

my ATI Commander stock

and hot rodded for my personal needs

Century Arms 1911. Yes, Philippine pistol, NOT Rock Island Arsenal! The one I got had the BEST trigger pull on ANY 1911 I have seen! It came with a sheet that everyone who worked on it had to sign off on. Worked out of the box! GREAT GUN!

Taurus PT1911. Mine cost $450 delivered! OK, it was a stainless .38 Super on close out with all the bells and whistles. So far works fine, not a single problem. Forged frame/slide. Very good trigger pull.

Springfield Armory. Everyone I've tried has been good and has lifetime warranty.

hey Legion, is your Century a S.A.M. Philippene pistol ?

the myrad of nicely performing budget level 1911s nowadays is truly amazing.
